Beast of Reincarnation FAQ

Every common question about Game Freak's new action RPG, answered from confirmed information.

Updated: August 2, 2026

Platforms & availability

What platforms is it on?

PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam). It's also day one on Xbox Game Pass. Release is August 3 on PC and August 4 on consoles — see exact times.

Is it coming to PS4 or Xbox One?

No. It's current-gen only — no PS4 or Xbox One versions exist or are planned.

Is it on Nintendo Switch or Switch 2?

No — and that's the headline oddity: Game Freak's first AAA title skips Nintendo entirely. It's the studio's first game ever on PS5 and Xbox. No Nintendo version has been announced.

Is there a demo?

No demo has been released as of launch week. If one arrives post-launch we'll cover it on the news page.

The Pokémon question

Is Beast of Reincarnation a Pokémon game?

No. Same studio, different universe: Game Freak develops it, but it's an original IP published by Fictions with zero Pokémon connection. No creatures to catch — though the DNA shows: your dog Koo executes commanded techniques in battle, a system directed by Kota Furushima, who previously worked on Pokémon battle systems. See how combat works.

Why isn't it published by Nintendo or The Pokémon Company?

Game Freak is an independent studio — Pokémon is a licensed collaboration, not ownership. For its own IP, Game Freak partnered with Fictions (the project began in 2023 as Project Bloom with Private Division). This game is the studio proving it can stand outside the franchise.

Gameplay

Is it multiplayer or co-op?

No — strictly single-player. Steam lists single-player only; there are no co-op, PvP or online modes. The "one-person, one-dog" partner is Koo, your AI-commanded companion.

Is it really a souls-like?

Steam's tags say souls-like and difficult, and press comparisons run to Sekiro and Black Myth: Wukong — but the hybrid real-time/turn-based combat system and explicit ranged/stealth playstyle support make it more flexible than a pure FromSoftware formula.

How long is it?

Around 40 hours for the main story, per the publisher.

Does it have difficulty options?

Not fully detailed pre-launch. We'll confirm difficulty and accessibility settings here on day one.

Buying

How much does it cost?

$59.99 standard, $69.99 Deluxe — full breakdown in the editions guide.

Do I need Windows 11?

Yes — the Steam listing requires Windows 11. Full system requirements here.

What languages does it support?

11 languages including English and Japanese (both with full audio), French, German, Spanish, Korean, Portuguese-Brazil, Simplified/Traditional Chinese and Italian (interface + subtitles).

Does it have Steam achievements and Family Sharing?

Yes to both, per the Steam listing.
